Jay Nichols

John “Jay” Nichols Jr. is a pillar of the global property & casualty insurance community. Mr. Nichols spent over 15 years with Renaissance Reinsurance (NYSE: RNR), which is globally recognized as one of the pioneers of scientific catastrophe modelling in the P&C reinsurance industry. At Renaissance Re, he served as the executive vice president of Renaissance Reinsurance, president of Renaissance Underwriting Managers, and president of RenaissanceRe Ventures. Through these roles Mr. Nichols helped to commercialize the successful use of scientific catastrophe models in the pricing and risk management of reinsurance.

Following his work with Renaissance Re, Mr. Nichols also served as CEO of AXIS Reinsurance. As leader, he was credited with profitably growing the reinsurance business, improving analytical capabilities, and expanding into new strategic capital partnerships.

Mr. Nichols also serves on the boards of Delaware North Companies, Brit Re and Sussex Re, Enhanzed Re, previously served on the Board of National General Insurance Company, and served as the Interim Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board at Protective Insurance Company where he oversaw the acquisition of the company by Progressive Insurance Company.
